Back in November 2014, Dr. Weill gave a
talk on some interesting mathematical problems at the
University of Idaho Mathematics Department
Colloquium. Now he will present some additional
favorites, some of which have surprising results, and
others with subtleties which lure the solver into
disastrous slippery slopes of reasoning. The
statement of each problem is easily understood, and all
involve elementary mathematics, including logic,
probability, algebra, geometry, and calculus. The
talk is directed primarily to undergraduate students in
mathematics and the sciences, but should appeal to
graduate students and faculty as well.
