The University of Idaho (UI) Addictions Program is a member of the
Idaho Educators in Addictions Studies (IDEAS!) Consortium. This group
includes members from the University of Idaho, Idaho State University, Boise
State University, Lewis Clark State College, the College of Southern Idaho,
Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, Idaho State Addictions Licensing Board,
and Treatment Providers. The goal of this group is to develop a unified
curriculum across Idaho State and provide quality training to individuals who
wish to pursue addictions training.
This website is broken into several sections. These include classes
you will need to take to prepare you to become an Idaho Student in Addictions
Studies (ISAS) which is the entry level to addictions counseling. It also
which you will need to complete to become a Certified Alcohol Drug Counselor
(CADC) or a Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) degree. The University of Idaho through the Department of Psychology
currently offers courses needed for certification in each of these areas.
All certification areas are set up to be completed in 1.5 - 2 years (if one
only take classes in a "live" format). However, most of the courses are
offered on - line as well. Thus, you can compete the educational
requirements faster. Do not be fooled by this format. Student
evaluations indicate that many on-line classes are rigorous, or even more
rigorous as the "live" classes. We also update the class every time it is
taught. We use MediaSite, standard websites and Blackboard Learn to teach these
