National Board for Certified Counselors

Masters Addictions Counselor (MAC)

 

Requirements

Must be a National Certified Counselor (NCC) or in the application process.

Required: 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours), or 500 contact hours of continuing education.

    All courses must be for graduate credit

    Group and/or family counseling

    2 courses on addictions covering:

        General Drug Terminology

        Specific Drug Information

        Theories of Addiction

        Medical and Psychological Aspects

        Assessment

        Treatment

        Special Issues

Three years of supervised experience at no less that 20 hours/week

References

    Two assessments

        One from a supervisor

        One from a colleague/counseling professional
