Ritual Baths
Many of the Inca sites contain what are clearly ritual baths. They are often located near, or in front of, significant temple sites. The bath structures are often based on a similar design that is composed of a shallow rectangular bath facing a short wall with the water source that is accessed by several steps. Several handholds are present to assist the bather on the same side as the water source. The water source is channeled over the short wall and into the bath.

This bath at Tambo Machay near Cuzco exhibits a split water channel and a larger bath. The bath sits in front and two tiers below the temple at this site.

Near Machu Picchu along the Inca Trail there is a ruin named Phuyupatamarca that contains a series of five nearly identical baths fed by a common channel.
