Mexican sculpture found on the Castillo
temple doorway jamb at Chichen-Itza.
Chichen-Itza is the prime example of the
Puuc-Mexican hybrid style
of architecture. The older structures of southern Chichen-Itza incorporated features
of the Classic Puuc style, but were made of rough block masonry.
The architectural forms of northern Chichen-Itza resemble the
architecture of Tula, the Toltec capital near present day Mexico City.
The Puuc style Chaac masks are present in both sections of Chichen-Itza. The low relief stone and wood sculptured door lintels and columns show
Mexican-looking figures.
