Overview |
This module completes our set of modules on the
topic of Human Resource Management. This current module focuses
on how we retain our effective employees, now that we’ve
invested time, energy, and other resources into attracting and
developing them. As you’ve noted in your textbook, many factors
relate to this topic. In this module we will focus primarily on
the issue of compensation.
|
Objectives |
After completing this lesson, you will be able to:
1. Describe the goals of compensation
administration and
factors that affect wage structures.
2. Know the legally required employee benefits and also some
of
the discretionary benefits firms offer.
2. Explain what is meant by the terms sexual harassment,
labor–management cooperation, workplace violence, and

As you’ve been learning in this module, human resources
can provide a true competitive advantage for organizations. We invest a
great deal of company resources into attracting and hiring the very best
match for our organizational needs, and then measuring/monitoring
performance, and offering training and development to make sure
employee’s knowledge, skills, and abilities continue to grow and match
our organizational requirements. The last thing we would likely want, at
this point, is for our talented employees to leave our firm for another
organization. So we need to focus on those factors which influence what
we’ve called earlier, the “maintenance” of our employees.
