Overview

Leadership is a term that is commonly used when referring to sports stars, politicians, teachers, parents, coaches, military personnel, managers, others. Unfortunately, using the term is easy, but leading is not. Being an effective leader requires more than a title or a position. Because managers operate with and through others to achieve organizational goals leadership is an essential skill for all managers who wish to be successful.

Objectives


After completing this module, you should be able to:

1. define the term leadership and differentiate it from the team
   management.
2. describe the leadership traits theories and the contributions
    they make to understanding how to lead.
3. describe the leadership behavior theories and the contributions
   they make to understanding how to lead.
4. describe the situational leadership theories and the
    contributions they make to understanding how to lead.
5. identify the links between transformational, charismatic,
    transactional, and visionary leadership and the traits, behavior,
    situational leadership research and the theories of motivation.
6. describe how the sources of power relate to the three types of
    trust.
