Sample Questions

The following questions describe situations that have occurred involving collegiate student-athletes. Please circle the response that best describes your true feelings. You must decide if the behavior/decision is : VA = Very Acceptable; A = Acceptable; N = Neutral; U = Unacceptable; or VU = Very unacceptable.

1. Upon returning to the locker room to retrieve a book, Donna sees Amy taking $20 from Kathy=s purse. Kathy=s parents are known to be wealthy and Kathy probably won=t even miss the money. With the big meet only three days away and not wanting to disrupt the team chemistry or to get involved, Donna keeps the incident to herself.

6. Just before the Introductory Psychology final exam, James, the All-American point guard, asks to copy Tony=s paper. Tony is also on the basketball team, but plays sparingly if at all. If James fails this exam he will surely be ineligible for the following semester. This is Tony=s chance to make a significant contribution to the team. He decides to help James, but just enough to pass.

14. Susan comes home from soccer practice to see her neighbor being slapped hard by her apparently intoxicated boyfriend. Susan recognizes the boyfriend as her former partner in anthropology. Later, the police knock on Susan's door asking if she had seen or heard anything. Susan thinks, Someone obviously called the police and my neighbor is safe. Because Susan knows both parties and doesn't want to get involved, she decides to tell the police nothing.

17. Marcus, an All-American middle linebacker, is walking through the park on his way to a friend=s house when he observes a teenage boy cutting through a bicycle lock, mounting the bike and speeding toward him. Marcus does not know the teen, but is convinced that the bike has just been stolen. Not wanting to get involved and not sure the bike had been stolen, Marcus continues on his way and allows the alleged bicycle thief to pass by.
