We offer the following services to clients outside the University (e.g., for municipalities, industry, consulting firms)

quantitative PCR (polymerase chain reaction)-method applied to quantify the relative fraction of microorganisms in a biological systems. We have establish methods to quantify the following microbial populations:

  • PAOs - polyphosphate accumulating organisms, critical to biological phosphorus removal
  • GAOs - glycogen accumulating organisms
  • Ammonia Oxidizing Bacteria - using the amoA gene
  • Nitrite Oxidizing Bacteria
  • Acetoclastic methanogens
  • Hydrogenotrophic methanogens

VFA analysis - we can full speciate a water/wastewater sample for the following volatile fatty acids: acetic, propionic, butyric (including iso-form), valeric (including iso-form) and caproic
