Sharon R. Harvey was born and raised in the country of Haiti before coming to the States at age 12. Much of her life has been in an international setting. She came to the University of Idaho ten years ago from Montreal, Quebec, Canada where she had lived for the past 15 years. She has a Master's degree in Religious Studies from McGill University, Canada, and another Master's degree in Philosophy from Washington State University.  Her Ph.D. in Environmental Science at the University of Idaho was completed in 2006. Sharon has written books on environmental philosophy:  Open Theism and Environmental Responsibilities: A Promotion of Environmental Ethics, VDM Press, 2007, and Heidegger and Eco-Phenomenology: Gelassenheit as Practice, VDM Press 2009.  Her article, "Environmental Problem-Solving and Heidegger's Phenomenology: Addressing Our Technical Relation to Nature" was published in the Environmental Philosophy Journal, Vol. VI, Issue II, Fall 2009, 59-71. The Cortner article used in this online course was the springboard for this piece of work. Sharon has co-taught this course four times on campus, and six times online.  Besides her academic life, Sharon is a wife and mother. She is married to Carlton, who also teaches online at the University of Idaho.  Sharon is an online instructor for the UI Psychology & Communication department, and will also be teaching sustainability courses starting this fall for the new Arizona State University campus in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.
