1. Why is it that we are more willing to accept risk if we have personal control over "taking" the risk.
2. Mass media often takes complex scientific and statistical descriptions of certain risks and magnifies their importance using "power words" such as "cancer-causing", "toxic chemical", "deadly" and even "poisonous". Think about how you would communicate the risks to human health associated with "normal" background levels of the well-known, "toxic" heavy metal, lead at 1 mg/kg. Your target audience in this exercise is a mixed population, community group.
