RESIGNATIONS

 

PREAMBLE: This section outlines the procedures various classes of UI employees should follow if they resign from the university. It remains unchanged from the version that appeared in the 1979 Handbook. Unless otherwise noted, the text is as of July 1996. Further information may be obtained from Human Resources (208-885-3609). [ed. 7-97, 7-01, 6-09]

 

A. FACULTY. A faculty member who wishes to resign should submit a letter of resignation to his or her college dean; the letter is normally routed through the unit administrator. As noted in 3170 A, a faculty member contemplating interruption or termination of service to UI should consider the effect of such a decision, and of its timing, on the programs of the institution and should give due notice of his or her intention. (The procedures for recruitment and selection for permanent full-time faculty positions normally require approximately three months.) [ed. 7-01, 7-11]

B. EXEMPT STAFF. A member of the exempt staff who wishes to resign should be guided by the statements in A, and should provide at least one month's notice. [ed. 6-09]

C. CLASSIFIED STAFF. Full-time classified employees who wish to resign are expected to give at least two weeks' notice. [See also 3950.]
