Given that S has Z-ed, what sort of intention accompanying S's Z-ing will make it the case that by (or in) Z-ing S was trying to A? The paper finds four different intention-contents each of which is such that, if S's Z-ing was accompanied by an intention with that content, then S's Z-ing was an attempt to A. The only feature these intention-contents appear to have in common is that each relates S's Zing in one way or another to the possibility of S's A-ing.
