Many-Brothers Determinism

Hud Hudson

David Lewis has recently proposed a solution to The Problem of the Many according to which those regions we ordinarily would have thought contained only one human person actually contain fantastically many human persons (each of which overlaps almost entirely with each of the others). Apart from the ever-plentiful incredulous stares, several philosophical objections have been raised against Lewis's many-persons solution. In this talk, I'll motivate and formulate a new objection to the many-persons solution which aims to show that one of its consequences is a loss of freedom for the overlappers. Then, I'll offer a critical evaluation of that objection.
