About CIEE
Founded in 1947, the Council on International
Educational Exchange (CIEE) is one the oldest study
abroad programs. CIEE has 200 member institutions and

On-Site Support
CIEE provides a resident director for each of its
sites. The resident director organizes on-site
orientations and program excursions, organizes appropriate
accommodations, answers questions, and is there to make your stay as
enjoyable as possible.

Courses and Credit
UI students will receive credit through CIEE's School of
Record, Spelman College. All CIEE courses are graded A-F.
Some CIEE programs have themes. For example, the Khon Kaen, Thailand
program focuses on Development and Environmental Science issues. As a
part of this program, students work on projects that may involve a
variety of political, economic, social, and environmental issues. This
program really provides excellent insights and experience for students
who are interested in the developing world and the impact development
has on the environment.
Some CIEE programs, such as the program at the University of
Hyderabad, explore the world’s largest democracy while providing service
projects, internships, or volunteer opportunities. Others, such as the
Macquarie University program in Sydney, Australia allows students to
study in a wide range of disciplines, whether it is Aboriginal studies,
music, business, or theater.

Application Deadlines
In order to meet CIEE deadlines, we ask that your application be
submitted no later than the deadlines below. However, CIEE accepts
students on a first-come, first-served basis. Once you decide that
you want to participate in the program, it is a good idea to submit your
application. Many CIEE programs fill prior to their deadlines.
Earlier is better than later!
