Hydroprocessing Laboratory Equipment

Atomic Absorption Spectrometer Varian Spectra 10/20

For analysis of metals in the ppm range (flame), and ppb range (graphite furnace).

Ion Chromatograph-Dionex 4500

Exclusive use for chemical speciation of anions.

UV/Vis Spectrophotometer-IBM Instruments

Mostly used for speciation of Fe(II) and Fe(III) in bioreactions.

Gas Chromatograph-SRI 8610

Utilized for determination of gaseous components..

Environmental Chamber

Environmental chamber is necessary for studying the reactions in controlled atmosphere.

Bacterial maintainance and growth (anaerobes; T. ferrooxidans)

for biocorrosion and biohydrometallurgical studies.

Electrochemistry Laboratory Instrumentation

AFM/STM Microscope-DI Nanoscope IIIa

Atomic Force/Scanning Tunneling Microscope is fully configured for topographic studies. In the present projects regarding electrochemical thin film deposition the AFM also serves as an in-situ electrochemical reactor.

Electrochemical AFM Setup

The AFM head can also accomodate a glass electrochemical cell for in-situ studies. Front view: reference and counter electrodes. Red light is from the laser. Working electrode (not seen) is on the piezo scanner (under the glass cell).

Electrochemical Instrumentation

Top to bottom: Computing coulometer (Electrosynthesis 680); Frequency Response Analyzer (Solartron 1260); Potentiostat- Galvanostat (PARC 273A/92)

Scanning Tunneling Microscope

Multimode AFM setup in STM mode

Photoelectrochemistry Research Workstation

Excimer laser (MPB Technologies, PSX 100) is used to study the effect UV light (193nm) on an electrode and its reactions. Molectron EPM 1000 is used for measurment of laser power output.
