Hydroprocessing of materials laboratory conducts the research relevant to processing of metals in aqueous and nonaqueous solutions.  Types of research include dissolution (ambient and under pressure), solvent extraction, ion exchange, precipitation, adsorption/desorption, electrochemical processing, bioleaching, etc.  The laboratory is heavily dependant on analytical instrumentation.

Laboratory Equipment:

-         Atomic absorption spectrophotometer with a graphite furnace, Varian-Model Spectra 10/20.

-         Ion chromatograph, Dionex-Model 4500.

-         Two gas chromatographs with various detectors, Stanford Research Institute-Model 8610

-         UV/vis spectrophotometer, IBM Instruments

-    Potentiostat/Galvanostat, Princeton Applied Research-Model 273A/92

-         Microcalorimeter, Sanda

-         Autoclave, 2-liters, Autoclave Engineers

-         Incubator-shaker, Lab Line

-         Environmental chamber

-         Controlled temperature furnaces

-    Impact laboratory mills

-         Laboratory balances: 0.1mg and 0.1 microgram sensitivity (Perkin-Elmer)
