Case Study 1: 2 Phase Signalized Intersection with Low Volume

For this case study you will see the difference in operations for a poorly timed and a well timed signal at the intersection shown. This will be done by first adjusting the traffic controller settings and running the simulation for the existing signal timing plan. To complete these steps, click on "Existing Signal Timing".

Once you have seen traffic operations using the existing signal timing plan, you need to develop an improved signal timing plan. Click on "Improved Signal Timing" to develop this plan.

After you have completed both portions of this case, consider the following questions:

  1. What was wrong with the existing signal timing plan?

  2. Did the improved signal timing plan effectively fix the problems?
