University of Idaho's
Virtual Campus

Sunrise on Idahonia,
2007
We are excited to announce that we are a finalist in the Albertson Foundation's ID21 Awards this year with our Immersive Learning Simulations!!

Idahonia is the University of Idaho’s presence in the Second Life® universe. Second Life® is a multi-user real-time virtual community that is built and supported by its residents. Idahonia is designed, built and managed in cooperation with three campus units: Department of Accounting (College of Business and Economics), School of Family and Consumer Sciences (College of Agriculture and Life Sciences)
and
Virtual Technology and Design
(College of Art and Architecture).
Idahonia was created to connect students and educators from across the state of Idaho and globally. The environments were created to support on-going educational engagement methods as well as a place to host new ideas in an effort to be better prepared for a new generation of student, and educator, who are more engaged and integrated into virtual worlds.
"Virtual worlds are
online environments that have game-like
immersion and social media functionality
without game-like goals or rules. At the
heart is a sense of presence with others
at the same time and in the same
place....you feel like you are with
other people in the same location
together...Virtual worlds like Second
Life® hold a promise for a new era in
human interaction and communication." --Giff

The University of Idaho Island
in Second Life® is a public space with classrooms, meeting
areas, presentation spaces, virtual representations of our iconic buildings, and learning simulations. Spaces are available for courses, meetings, and many other purposes. Please
contact us and let us know if we can help you. We
welcome your suggestions to make
this online space pleasant,
productive, and enjoyable.
