Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing. I wish to hell I'd
never said the thing...I meant the effort and having a goal. I sure as
hell didn't mean for people to crush human values and morality. Vince
Lombardi |

Leadership is perceived to be the essence of what we do as
coaches. We are provided with the responsibility of leading our athletes to
achieve at the highest level possible. A 'good coach' will find a way for
the athlete and their team to 'be at their best'. This lesson will provide
the learner with the opportunity to view an alternative yet surprisingly
practical methodology to employ when striving to help those that they lead
to become their best. |

Picture is free access, see Wikipedia. You might wonder why this lesson is using philosophic points of
view from John Wooden - because he's not really a football coach.
However, Wooden's tenants have long been valued by football coaches.
Pete Carroll at USC and Urban Meyer at
Florida have often linked their coaching philosophy to the teachings of Coach Wooden- both have sought the counsel or referred to Wooden in formulating their plans for success. |
John Wooden On Leadership: Read the
following attachment from John Wooden's book, On
Wooden. And then read more about him from
the Academy of
Achievement, and
Bill Walton's view of John Wooden. |
