Information for Course Instructors


Important Dates
Please check the Evaluation Schedule for accuracy and to know when your course evaluations will be turned on and off.

Four Major Components
1. Check the Evaluation Schedule
2. Add Items to your Evaluation Form
3. Monitor your Response Rates online
4. Review Reports: Summary Report and Detailed Report
Only courses with enrollments of 5 or more are reported in order to protect the confidentiality of the students.
Check the Evaluation Schedule
The Evaluation Schedule is updated periodically each semester. The Evaluation Schedule is an Excel file that shows the online Student Evaluation of Teaching schedule. The data come from Banner and are thought to be correct. Follow-the "Checklist for Course Instructors".

Add Items to your Evaluation Form
The SET "Standard Form" form consists of nine items that are included on all evaluation forms. Course instructors can add items from a menu list to each evaluation form.
 

    

Add up to 10 items that pertain to the quality of instruction
 

    

Add up to 10 items that pertain to the quality of the course
However, it is recommended that course instructors choose no more than 5 in each category, to keep the overall form length short.
 
How To Add Items to an Evaluation Form
1.

Login to the University of Idaho Banner Web Interface, or go directly to the Course Instructor portion of the online Student Evaluation of Teaching system.

2. Choose the "Item Selection" hyperlink.
3. Select a course from the "Select Course(s):" list box and click "Create Form". If a course is not selected, you may receive an error when submitting items for addition to your evaluation form.
4. View the menu of items and type the appropriate item numbers into the text boxes.

5. Click the "Submit Items" button to add the items to your form.

Monitor your  Response Rates Online
The Online Response Rate Report shows real time response rate data. Remind students complete an online SET evaluation and refer to the "Tips on Boosting Response Rates" for additional ideas.

Review Reports
Instructors will be able to view the student responses for their courses after final grades have been submitted. To view reports, login to the University of Idaho Banner Web Interface, or go directly to the Course Instructor portion of the online Student Evaluation of Teaching system.
Summary Report
The Summary Report link on the online Student Evaluation of Teaching system produces a numerical summary report of the online evaluations for courses with 5 or more students enrolled.
Detailed Report
The Detailed Report link on the online Student Evaluation of Teaching system produces a report of each student's response for courses with 5 or more students enrolled. The Detailed Report also shows individual student comments.
