Workshop Track 3. Integration of Sustainability into the Curriculum (Aurora Room)

Facilitator:
Don Crawford, Director, Environmental Science Program, University of Idaho

How can we integrate sustainability into our curriculum?  President Tim White signed the Talloires Declaration on behalf of the University of Idaho in March 2005. His signing of the declaration committed the University of Idaho to developing a sustainability plan for the university that includes integration of environmental sustainability concepts into all aspects of the university's curriculum. This workshop will examine the approaches used by other institutions of higher education to successfully integrate sustainability into their curricula. Workshop leaders will include University of Idaho faculty involved in core curriculum development and teaching, University of Idaho students, community educators, and outside experts who have been directly involved in sustainability curriculum development at other universities. The primary goal of the workshop will be to develop of an initial approach and plan for integrating sustainability into the University of Idaho curriculum. An outcome of the workshop will be the presentation of this plan to the University community for further discussion.

Session format: Discussion leaders and co-leaders will introduce each session with short presentations covering the goals of the session and posing questions to the audience for discussions to follow.
