CDE Rules - Verified and valid for 2012

  • Participation Guide = guidelines for completing the event .

    • Each year we will do Parts 1 (Plant Id. & Site Desc.), Part 2 (Range Mgmt), and Part 5 (Stocking Rate & Mgmt Recommendations)

    • Rotate Part 3 (Domestic Grazer Habitat) on EVEN years and Part 4 (Wildlife Habitat) on ODD years

  • Event Score Cards = examples of score cards used in the event

  • Plant List = List of the 55 plants in the event with characteristics

  • Event Set Up Instructions and Supply List

Teaching Resources

  • Teacher Resource Guide for Rangeland Principles = website created by the Rangeland Ecology and Management Program at the University of Idaho. Includes presentations, activities, student handouts, and readings.

  • Pictures of Plant Mounts = An excel table with clickable links to very high-quality herbarium specimens. Zoom in and explore using in the web viewer. Mounts like these will be used in event. Order a set of the 55 plant prints (or individual specimens) for your classroom. Prints are 11 x 17 inch laminated high-quality full-color plant scans (updated 2010). Prints include common name, growth form, lifespan, origin, and forage value. Contact 4range@uidaho.edu to request order form.

  • Plant Flashcards = Full-color 8.5 x 5.5 inch flashcards are available. Flashcards are printed on cardstock paper and include several color photos on front side. Plant common name, growth form, lifespan, origin, and forage value are listed on back side. To order a set, email 4range@uidaho.edu. Available for $35 (includes shipping).

  • Prepare your team for the Western National Rangeland CDE = an new national event started in 2010 that hosts the top placing teams from western states.
