WLF 448: Fish & Wildlife Population Ecology

Fall 2004

Lab 8 Help/Hints

This is a fairly difficult lab.  If you need to another lab section for extra help that is fine.  However, the students enrolled in that lab section get first choice of computers.  After that, first come, first serve.

Question 4 and 5: Look in your In-class exercise notes under the 'Interpreting results' (roman numeral IV) to find out what the null hypothesis is.  The general model is the more complex model and the reduced model is the simpler model.

Question 5:  Think about how you could test this hypothesis with the LR tests.  You will use a model you already have run AND a new model.  The new model is fairly simple and isn't much different than the s(g.) r(g.) model.  Good luck.

Question 6: Look under the Definitions hot link in Lab notes for information on how to calculate recovery, reporting, and harvest rates.

NOTE: Other help notes may be added to this page over the next few days, so you may want to check back here occasionally. If these help notes do not adequately answer your question, please see your TA during office hours.
