WLF 448: Fish & Wildlife Population Ecology

Fall 2007

Have you seen Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" playing at the Kenworthy downtown this last week?  If you haven't seen it yet, you ought to!  It lays out many of the issues with global warming without leaving you feeling depressed and hopeless

Have any of you read Elizabeth Kolbert's (2006) Field Notes from a Catastrophe: Man, Nature, and Climate Change (Bloomsbury Publishing, New York)?  I finished it this last week during vacation at my cabin near Mt. Lassen in California.  It has been compared to Rachel Carson's Silent Spring and is a light read but very compelling.  Are we squandering our, your and our children's future letting our government act like an ostrich with its head in the sand?  At least some states, cities, our university and many other countries are facing the issues and working toward sustainability and decreased carbon emissions.  What can we do in this class to contribute to the solutions?  Let me know any ideas you have.
