You can create and switch between different views, tables, and layouts in the "Project" window.
Step VI-6: With more complicated queries, the query builder often leaves parentheses missing from the equations. These must be inserted manually using the buttons or simply by typing them in. For example, the correct syntax for the first question (how many wolverine observations were recorded during 1882-1961) is: ([Year]>=1882) and ([Year]<=1961). You also can search within results by running the query ([Year]>=1882) (click "New Set") and then running the query ([Year]<=1961) (click "Select from Set"). Although not applicable in this instance, the "Add to Set" button can be used to add records to a "New Set" query.
Step VII-8: To make Bailey's ecoregions transparent but keep the highlighted (yellow) sections, go to the the Legend Editor and change the "fill color" to the upper-left box with an "x" in it. If you choose the "no fill" option in the previous window, then the highlighted sections are not displayed.
Step IX-12: To print in landscape, you must select the landscape option in both the "layout" menu (properties) and the "print setup" (in the "file pulldown menu").
Although publication-quality maps are important in some instances, the emphasis of this exercise is not on producing a pretty map. Please make sure it is complete and understandable (should include title, legend, scale, and north arrow), but remember that GIS and map creation are tools to help you answer spatial questions. In other words, use ArcView (and the map you create) to help you answer the problem-set questions. The emphasis is on the questions in this exercise! However, future assignments may require additional map presentation effort , so developing those skills now will serve you well in the future.
