Every year the Idaho Saddle
Club's Association (ISCA) awards the Dutch Krieter Memorial Trophy to
the rider in any age group with the highest combined points in the five
"original" O-Mok-See events: key, cloverleaf barrels, barrel & stake,
flag and pole bending. What many riders do not know is who Dutch was and
why he was so important to the ISCA.
F. W. "Dutch" Krieter lived in St. Maries and was a member of the St. Maries Saddle Cub. He was a major force behind St. Maries arena, helping to get it set-up and ready for use. Dutch became active very early in the ISCA and went on to serve both as ISCA president and NSCA president. But what was really special about Dutch was his love for the sport we call O-Mok-See. Although he rode horses, liked to hunt and go on pack trips, Dutch did not compete in O-Mok-See. He devoted his time to the sport because of his children and grandchildren. He spent his time trailering to and from shows, helping out because of his love for his kids and the sport. After his death, Dutch's family came up with the idea of this travelling memorial trophy. So every year the trophy will get passed on to old and young alike, who excelled in the basic games of the sport Dutch so loved. In 2000 the ISCA together with the host club, NWSOA, purchased a new Dutch Krieter Memorial trophy that will carry his memory into the new millenium. The original trophy was returned to the Krieter family for safekeeping. So good luck! Whoever goes home with the Dutch Krieter Memorial trophy should feel very proud that they are able to add their name to a part of ISCA history, and keep alive the memory of a man who understood and lived the true spirit of the great sport called O-Mok-See! |
