Meeting Minutes: October 17, 2007
Introductions

- 18 UI GSAers and WSU GLBTAers and 1 special guest (see below)
Moscow Police Officer Presenting on Safety Issues for GLBT Community
- Officer Paul Kwiatkowski - talked about safety issues on campus and in the community
- Perceptions
- Violent, mean comments
- Idaho does not have a code to protect our community from specific harassment issues
- Can arrest people based on probable cause
- BUT you have to have met a list of certain topics of laws to actually get a conviction
- Be self aware of your surroundings
- No headphones in both ears
- Be able to hear what is going on around you
- Best Offense is the Best Defense
- Which is “run like hell and yell real loud”
- Dial 911 on your cell phone
- But if you cannot, you do have the right to defend yourself
- If police are involved, listen to the cops 100%
- Let people know where you are going
- DO NOT leave people if you are in a group
- Going just through the university will not completely protect you from harassment, call police even if it happens on campus
- Violent crimes this year:
- 1 cop, 7 murders in the county
- Very horrible year, very bizarre
- Don’t use threats, you’re creating an offense where you could just be defensive in nature, you’ll be prosecuted if any negative happens
- 911 getting text messages?
- They don’t have the ability yet to track where you cell phone is because of a lack of money to purchase the equipment if you can’t say anything
- Totally know where the 911 call came from a land line even if you can’t say anything
- Random Questions towards the end of the meetings, everyone thoroughly enjoyed that and loved all the information that they were given in his group discussion and presentation.

- He will be in his office most of the afternoon on Friday

- There are only 11 spots left in the course

- Passed out interest paper
- Wrote your name and what gender of character you would like to play
- Send an E-mail to us if you were not in attendance and would like to play
- Tara should be able to have invitations next meeting with what character you will be playing

- Only one fund raiser a year and they would like your support
