Group Theory is used in Physics, Mineralogy, art and many other disciplines. We will see some of these applications as we go along. Our focus, however, will be on Group Theory as an important branch of mathematics. Because Group Theory is such a rich subject, we will be able to examine many important features of modern mathematics. The role of definitions and the techniques associated with formulating conjectures and proving them (when they are true) will be considered.
