Isla Santa Fe

Here is a hawk that sat next to me at lunch one

day near the summit of the island.

Santa Fe is the faulted remnant of a 3 Ma shield volcano. Several parasitic cinder cones are in its interior. The west coast of the island has huge sea cliffs, which could be the headwall scarp of a giant landslide. The island was briefly described by McBirney and Williams; I wrote a slightly more detailed note on the island in 1985 (it has some embarrassing typos and horrendous graphics).

Here is my poor geologic map of the island.

And a profile of the island from the west.
