GREATER PALOUSE YOUTH ORCHESTRA

Formerly known as Moscow Youth Orchestra, the Greater Palouse Youth Orchestra commenced its operations in August/2004, as part of the University of Idaho Orchestra Program in Moscow, Idaho.  Co-Directors are Sheila Kilcoyne, founder and Director of the Moscow Youth Orchestra, and Ferenc Cseszko, Director of the UI Symphony and Chamber Orchestras.

The GPYO is open to string students grades 7-12, who:

-          are performing at a Suzuki Book 5 level or above, AND

-          are attending the orchestra program of their respective school (if available).

The purpose of the GPYO is to enhance the music curriculum currently offered in local public schools, and to provide a university level youth orchestra program to area musicians.  Although the GPYO will be part of the UI Orchestras, university credit will not be given for participation.

The GPYO presents two full concerts each year (in December and May), plus one or two performances combined with other orchestras.  The ensemble rehearses on Thursdays at 7:00-8:30PM in Room 216 of the UI Lionel Hampton School of Music building.  The registration fee is $125 per student per semester, payable to Greater Palouse Youth Orchestra.

Auditions for string players will be held again on Thursday, August 27, 2009.  The GPYO will use university woodwind and brass players, therefore only string players are asked to join.  Interested students should contact Sheila Kilcoyne at 892-1892 to schedule an audition time.  The audition will consist of an excerpt from a solo work and sight-reading.
