Instructional Video. "Cool Islands: Guidelines for Parking Lot Shading," 1996. For the City of Lewiston, Idaho

Coordinated the development of image and file standards for the creation of digital images for landscape architecture, 1995.

Digital images and documentation describing historic landscapes. 600 copyright-free images posted to data bases at the university of Idaho (http://www.ets.uidaho.edu) and the University of Toronto (http://www.clr.toronto.edu) CLIP program. 1996.

Interactive tutorials for computer assisted learning. Implemented in The History of Landscape Architecture (LArch 389), Fall 1992, expanded each year since 1994.

Interactive tutorials in Landscape Construction (units on wood properties, framing, detailing; metals; concrete and unit pavers), 1994, 1996.

Digital course on the History of Landscape Architecture delivered via the internet for long-distance learning. The course is an interact ive collection of images and text. Prototype complete 1996 and presented to the University of Idaho Office of Teaching Enhancement and the State of Idaho Office of Independent Study. All units to be complete by June 1, 1997.

Secured a collection of copyright-free 35mm slides (2000+) of historical landscape projects, for transfer to digital format. Donated by Charles Cares, University of Michigan, 1996.

Fall 1996,
Landscape Graphics, 3 credits. Introduction to plan, section and perspective graphics to communicate design proposals. Introduction to computer applications supporting image manipulation and perspective drawing.

Fall 1996, Junior Landscape Architecture Design Studio, 6 credits. Emphasis on the design of housing projects on large parcels in urban and small town settings. Sustainable designs which satisfy human aspirations and enhance or preserve ecological integrity are a course goal. The study of design process for physical design, planning and public participation is pursued through literature review and application to design problems.

Fall 1995, Directed Study in CADD, 2 credits. Introduction to AutoCad and LandCadd to support preparation of construction drawings, including road alignment, framing, and construction detailing.

Fall 1993 and Fall 1994, Introduction to Landscape Architecture, 1 credit. Freshman introduction to the scope and method of the discipline.

Spring 1992-present, Irrigation Design Workshop, 2 credits. Hydraulics and irrigation system design for ornamental landscapes. Studio and lecture components.

Spring 1992-present, Landscape Construction II, 4 credits. Site layout, structural principles and calculations, construction detailing of wood, concrete, masonry, and metal features. Computer assisted drafting is utilized. Junior level course.

Fall 1991-present, History of Landscape Architecture, 3 credits. Studio workshops, graphic products and interactive computer tutorials are components of this course.

Fall 1991-95, Sophomore Landscape Architectural Design Studio, 6 credits. Design theory and its application to small sites, such as parks, plazas, and multifamily housing. Writing and computer 3-D modeling are included as part of curriculum.



As Lecturer at the University of Washington, 1985-91.

Irrigation Design Studio. Elective course in the design of spray and drip irrigation. Discussion of water management techniques.

Small Scale Construction. Sophomore construction studio addressing layout, drafting, and grading.

Large Scale Construction. Senior construction studio addressing grading and drainage, storm water management, lighting design, and road alignment.

Construction Detailing. Sophomore construction studio covering structures, detailing, and specifications.

Advanced Graphic Techniques. Senior course in multimedia presentation techniques including production of computer graphics and video presentations. Students worked in a television studio gaining experience as cameramen, directors, interviewers, online editors and off-line editors.

Design in the Urban Context. Sophomore lecture course. Design theory with special attention on urban problems.

Natural Processes and Landscape Design. Freshman lecture. Discussion of environmental planning and design methods.

Computer Applications in Environmental Design. Freshman studio introducing computing concepts and technology. Projects included 2-D drawing, 3-C modeling, Geographic Information Systems, and Relational Data Bases.

Plant Ecology and Design. Graduate studio including transects of native plant communities, and revegetation techniques an d planting design using native plants.

Plant Identification. Sophomore field studies to identify plant species and discuss design applications.

Landscape Construction I, II, and III. Three quarter sequence of courses addressing layout, grading, irrigation, lighting, structures, detailing, and specifications.

Theory and Literature of Landscape Architecture. Graduate Seminar exploring major theoretical issues in design through the writing of historical and contemporary authors.
