We have two main laboratories. Our organic chemistry lab (1463 sq. ft., Renfrew Hall 326) is outfitted with four fume hoods (3 x 8-ft, 1 x 6-ft) and fully equipped for modern synthetic organic chemistry.

Our biotechnology lab (663 sq. ft. Renfrew Hall 314) is outfitted with three hoods (2 x 8-ft, 2 x 4-ft) and instrumentation needed for the synthesis, purification, and characterization of functionalized oligonucleotides and nanomaterials including:

• Expedite 8909 DNA synthesizers
• Varian-Rainin RP-HPLC and Shimadzu IEC-HPLC systems
• Speed Vacs with high-vacuum pumps
• Cary Varian 100 UV/VIS spectrometer and Cary Varian Eclipse fluorimeter
• Gel Electrophoresis apparatus
• 96-well plate readers

In addition, we have access to 300 and 500 MHz NMR spectrometers (1H, 13C, 15N, 19F, 31P, DEPT, COSY, HSQC, HMBC), high resolution ESI/MALDI-MS, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX), confocal Raman microscopes, and other specialized instrumentation through internal collaborators, imaging facilities and instrument centers.
