Title
Statistics and the transition from genetics to genomics
by
Warren Ewens
Professor of Biology
University of Pennsylvania
Abstract
By "genetics" I mean work at the one gene locus level, ie much of population
genetics. A lot of statistics was developed in this context (eg correlation,
ANOVA) by Fisher. Thus statistics is very useful at the genetic level and
has many connections with genetics. The theme of the talk is, more
or less, to what extent will statistics as we now understand it also be useful
for genomic data?
