Description:
 		The Jagellonian Library (JL) is a depository for the oldest university in Poland, the Jagellonian University of Cracow, which along with the Pragh University are the oldest universities in Central Europe. JL, with the oldest secular collection in the country, is a second central library after the National Library collecting listings of Polonica published in Poland from the beginning of printing to 1900. In addition JL is a public research library with rich collections from the Renaissance and Baroque Periods. It also specializes in the humanities and social subjects emphasizing intellectual history, Romance philology, foreign literature, linguistics, religion, and culture. JL along with 46 other institute libraries creates the network of libraries and information for the Jagellonian University and the city of Cracow.

BJ ze swoja najstarsza swiecka kolekcja w kraju pelni takze funkcje drugiej biblioteki narodowej gromadzac i archiwizujac wszystkie druki wydane w kraju oraz polonica zagraniczne. Jako publiczna biblioteka naukowa specjalizuje sie w kompletowaniu zbiorow z zakresu literatury, jezykoznawstwa, kultury i sztuki, literaturoznawstwa, religioznawstwa. Razem z 46 bibliotekami instytutowymi i wydzialowymi tworzy uczelniana siec biblioteczno-informacyjna dla Uniwersytetu Jagiellonskiego i miasta Krakowa.

Charakterystyka zbiorow specjalnych:

Comprehensive collections of medieval and modern manuscripts, old prints (mainly sixteenth century Polonica), underground literature, maps, musical manuscripts, drawings and prints. Among rare books and manuscripts items such as Calendarium Astronomicum rece Tabula siderum (approx. 1458, from Joannes Gutemberg's printing shop), Copernicus - De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelesitium (approx. 1530), or incunabula from the world's first Cyrillic printings.

Bogata kolekcja srednowiecznych i wspolczesnych rekopisow, starodrukow (glownie z XVI wieku), literatury podziemnej, grafiki, map i muzykaliow.
