The rule of thirds

Photography, in itself, is a science. The way the camera both absorbs and refracts photons to relay an image using lines, repetition, patterns, and balance, all to attract the eye, is enticing. The systemic conjunction used to formulate an image is nothing shy from the immense intricacy in that of the scientific world.

In this image, titled “The Rule of Thirds", science is shown not only through the medium, but through the linear fashion in which the photograph was set up. Much like the art of science, it is abstract and confusing, yet formulaic and comprehensive. In addition, the photograph was captured on film, where one cannot revise an image after it is taken in order to ensure it is properly exposed and in focus. This requires hypothesizing to obtain the correct settings according to the light situation one is presented with. After being dipped in chemicals during processing, one can finally review the image and observe if their hypothesis was correct.
