'm also available for instruction in using library resources in those
areas.
I've done library instruction for several other classes and
am available as needed for others.
Here are a couple class pages I put together for instructional purposes:
EndNote: I'm the library's expert on EndNote, so if you need help with it, contact
me, especially if it is in regards to capturing references from the library
catalog or any of the indexes or other databases to which the library provides access.
Here's a link to information on using the library catalog with EndNote,
including a couple files which will be helpful in doing that: Using EndNote with the UI Library Catalog

Bookmarklets
Bookmarklets are bookmarks (or favorites) which are actually scripted to run a little program.
Here are several that I've constructed:
Title Searches. This one's the best, but it's for Internet Explorer only. To add it to your Favorites in IE, right click on it, then select "Add to Favorites" from the menu that appears:
UI Library Title Search
Highlight a title on any web page, click the bookmark and it automatically performs a search of the UI Library catalog. It does open up in a separate window and may take a few seconds to finish the search, that is, click on the window that opens and BE PATIENT.
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get it to run on Firefox yet. If any one can give me a hand with that, it would be much appreciated.
Here's a similar one for the WSU Library Catalog, but it so far only works in Firefox. Left click on this one and drag it to your bookmarks.
WSU Library Title Search
It opens up in the same window, usually pretty quickly.
ISBN searches. Here are several that work on pages that have ISBNs on them, like book descriptions in Amazon. Once you get to the record in Amazon et al., you don't need to highlight anything, just click the bookmark to search the specified library catalog. One caveat is that the ISBN searched is the one for the exact edition you're looking at, so you have to be looking at the same edition the library owns, which most likely is the hardcover copy.
These all work in Firefox and in Internet Explorer. In Firefox drag them to your bookmarks. In IE, right click on it, then select "Add to Favorites" from the menu that appears. Remember, no need to highlight the ISBN when you search them, look for the new window that opens, and be patient.

Firefox search engine plug-ins
Ben Hunter, a colleague in the UI Library, has an alternate means for doing searches in the UI Library Catalog, search engine plugins for Firefox, available from his web site at http://www.webpages.uidaho.edu/~bhunter/. These include means to search not only titles and ISBNs, but also author , keyword and subject searching plugins. He's got other interesting stuff there, too, so give it a click.
