Review but don't get bogged down by the following observations on core requirements: Because of the foreign language requirement, English majors automatically fulfill the International Course requirement for the university's core curriculum. In addition to ISEM 101 (3 cr), 6 credits of humanities, 6 credits of social science and additional course(s) to total 18 credits (also students must have completed courses in at least three different disciplines from approved Humanities, Social Science, International, or Capstone courses. The Integrated Seminar course does not count toward the three discipline requirement; also students must have completed at least one upper-division (300-499) course from approved Humanities, Social Sciences, International, ISEM 301, and Capstone courses). The UI core curriculum also includes required course work in the following categories: Communication (English 102 plus 2-3 credits from Comm 101, or Engl 313, or Engl 317, or Phil 102; Natural and Applied Sciences (7-8 crs); Mathematical, Computer and Statistical Sciences (3 crs).
