The area surrounding the University of Idaho offers some of the most spectacular, and biologically unique, field sites available in the lower 48 states.  Most of the labs work has focused on the field sites along the Salmon Wild and Scenic River, located 2.5 hours from campus and nestled within the Frank Church Wilderness east of Riggins, Idaho. Other field sites used in the past have been located on the Selway River, adjacent to the Selway Bitterroot Wilderness, and at numerous higher elevation sites along the rim of Hells Canyon. One of the unique features that unites these diverse field sites is the opportunity they offer to study natural interactions in relatively pristine and undisturbed habitats. The following photos and captions provide more detail.
