Postdoctoral position: Modeling the emergence of Lassa fever in Sierra Leone

A postdoctoral position will be available in my group starting in October 2019, developing mathematical and statistical models forecasting the emergence of Lassa fever in Sierra Leone. The postdoc will have the freedom to choose their specific questions and topics within this broad area. The work is part of an ongoing collaboration between UC Davis, Plymouth University, Rocky Mountain Laboratories, and the University of Glasgow.  The postdoc will have access to a rich stream of data emerging from field studies of Lassa fever in its natural rodent reservoir within Sierra Leone and from experimental and genetic studies.

The position is anticipated to become available October 1 of 2019 and will be based at the University of Idaho. The post-doc will be co-supervised by Scott L. Nuismer (Departments of Biology and Mathematics) and Chris Remien (Departments of Mathematics and Biology); numerous opportunities exist for interaction with our empirical collaborators. Jim Bull (U. of Texas) will be joining the group in mid-late 2019.

Applicants should have a PhD in evolutionary biology, ecology, mathematics, or a related field and a demonstrated ability to develop, analyze, and publish mathematical and computational models of biological processes. To apply, e-mail a CV and the names and contact information of three references to Scott L. Nuismer (snuismer@uidaho.edu). The initial appointment will be one year with the possibility of renewal for an additional year. Review of applications will begin around September 2019 and continue until the position is filled.
