"WELCOME" in Chinese

I received a Ph.D. in Statistics from Florida State University, a M.A. in Mathematics from the University of West Florida, and a B.S. in Mathematics from the University of Hong Kong. I joined the Department of Statistics at the University of Idaho in 1993. I am a tenured Associate Professor of Statistics since 1999. I am a professor, researcher, and consultant in the field of Statistics. My research is motivated by solving real world problems from consulting. I teach a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate statistics courses.

My general research area is Multivariate and Computational Statistics. It includes: Integrating models and methods from statistics, neural networks, machine learning, and data mining communities to discover relationships and recognize patterns in databases; modeling using regression and classification for interpretation and forecasting; extracting information and patterns; and developing computational algorithms to increase efficiency and prediction accuracy.

Obituary:  On January 11, 2002 the statistics community and the University of Idaho lost our respected colleague, Al Manson. He was the chair of the Department of Statistics at the University of Idaho from 1997 to 2001. His professional contribution to the statistics community and to the University of Idaho was profound and significant. Here is a brief memorial note I wrote to remember a dear friend and colleague.
