Sauchi Stephen Lee personal page

My first name Sauchi consists of two Chinese characters: Sau is a verb and it means defend, protect, guard, conserve, wait, keep, maintain, stick to, hold on, and abide in. Chi is a noun and it means Wisdom. My middle name Stephen was a first century christian martyr who was stoned to death because of his faith in and testimony for Jesus the Christ. This true story was recorded in the chapters 6 and 7 in the Acts of the Apostles in the Bible. I had the privilege to chose this middle name for myself when I applied for my Hong Kong identity card in the 70's. Hong Kong was a British Colony at that time. Although I am not as bold as the first century Stephen and not even as courageous as myself in the 70's, it is already decided that I am called "Stephen". I cannot change my name and I wouldn't because I like it. My last name Lee is one of the commonest last name among Chinese and among Americans. Regional Chinese dialect results in a different spelling of Lee (in Cantonese) to the same Li (in Mandarin). They are written the same way in Chinese. It is a noun and its meaning is "plum" or "judge/justice".

Putting this all together, my name Sauchi Stephen Lee means Judge Stephen Defends Wisdom. I am so thankful to my parents to give me such a meaningful name. My father came to know and trusted the Lord in 1993, four years after my mother became a believer. I am so thankful that God saves my parents.

My wife's name is Poren Polly Chu Lee and she is originally from Taiwan. We have two boys: Ray Enray Lee born in Florida, and David Ende Lee born in Virginia.
