OUR COUNTRY'S GOOD
by Timberlake Wertenbaker, Directed by Robert Caisley, University of Idaho, 2003

Amid the atmosphere of brutality perpetrated by an unrelenting British judicial system in
the first convict colony in Botany Bay, Australia, a lieutenant attempts to produce a play
as a way to lift spirits and secure a promotion for himself. The setting portrays the images of the ribs
and hold of a transport ship, the rocky Australian shore and a huge rock hanging over
the occupants as a reminder of the oppression and adversity the prisoners must endure.
