An Auditorium Experience

Due: Tuesday, May 7, at 10:15 am (at the final)
Attend a musical or theatrical performance and record your experience. An
evaluation guide and a data collection sheet is
attached to help you record your observations.
- Give name, date, and location of the event (attach the program, if possible)
- Describe the hall in plan and section (not necessarily to scale)
- Calculate Reverberation Time (TR) using the formula in Insideout E3.3.2 and compare it to the
values given in Insideout, Figures E3.2.1 and E3.3.1
- Observe and record the special acoustic features, such as reflecting panels and shells, dampening
curtains, etc.
- During the performance, did you notice:
a. the audience noise?
b. the mechanical system noise?
- How was the transition from lobby to auditorium handled?
- Were electronic speakers used? Where were they located?
Give an overall impression of the suitability of the hall for the specific performance that you
attended.
Format: 8½" by 11" sheets.
