Western Africa is comprised of several different climates, some very arid, others fairly wet. This results in several different construction methods, and the method that is used largely relates directly to the climate. For the sake of brevity, however, this section will focus on the most prominent method of construction in western African Islamic architecture-that of adobe. It should be noted that the information in this section comes mostly from a wonderful book called Spectacular Vernacular by Jean-Louis Bourgeois. For more information on this and other sources, please see the Bibliography and Links pages.
