Another method is the coursing or puddling method. This consists of layers of mud shaped and built up by hand, similar to the way some pottery is made. After this layer dries, another layer is added, and the process continues course by course, with each layer supporting those above it. In some cases, these layers are built up around large horizontal cones, which serve as supports to the layers of mud. The cone tops can then be left exposed as decoration.
