Kathmandu lies on the western side of the Valley. As in other two cities of the Kathmandu Valley, this kingdom also had well-developed palaces and
temples in the ancient times. Recent urbanization in Kathmandu
obscures the historic architecture, however, intense vestiges of the
old kingdom still remain at the center of the city including dozens of
temples distributed throughout the city.

Kathmandu Palace complex is a
set of palaces and temples arranged around a large spacious brick
paved city square. There is a huge palace, more than a dozen temples of various sizes and
few public rest houses. Few of the original structure like few
courtyards, temples and towers remain today.
