Best Practice: When to Hide?

Ask yourself: Does hiding this item make sense from a student learning standpoint?

Hiding online content and assignments from students may cause confusion:

  • Students may assume there is a system glitch when content appears and disappears without warning.
  • Unavailable submission links may prevent students from getting important feedback?which inhibits their learning.

Visit the ACUE webpage on transparency in learning to learn more about the benefit of students having "a transparent view of why and how you've structured their learning experiences."

  • Scroll down to the Options
  • Set Permit Users to View the Content to No
  • Press Submit to save your settings

Show Content

If a content folder or item is says "Availability: Item is not available" this means your students cannot see it. Here's what you need to do to show them the content:

  • Ensure that Edit Mode is On
  • Click the option menu next to the item you want to show
  • Select Edit
  • Scroll down to the Options
  • Set Permit Users to View the Content to Yes
  • Press Submit to save your settings
