University-Wide Programs

Programs and Degrees Offered

A Board of senior academic administrators has been established to oversee key interdisciplinary, cross-college degree programs and related engagement activities. Board membership includes: the Provost and Executive Vice President; Vice President for Research and Economic Development; Director of the Office of Community Partnerships; Executive Director of Planning and Budget; and the academic deans.

The purpose of the Board structure is to implement efficient and effective organization and support for university-wide academic programs and to engage a broad set of administrators responsible for faculty and programs across the university by:

  • Enhancing university-wide representation and participation;
  • Aligning with research entities and engagement administrative structures;
  • Increasing communication to strengthen collaboration and coordination;
  • Providing a stable administrative and funding platform;
  • Facilitating academic planning and implementation across all academic programs within and between colleges

Programs and Degrees Offered

Each academic program is managed by a Coordinating Committee constituted from among those administrators who have financial, faculty, staff, or student responsibilities for some portion of the program. Current university-wide programs benefitting from this structure include the following:

Bioinformatics

Director: Eva Top 208/885-5015

A Master’s degree and a Ph.D. degree option are offered for the degree in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology with faculty participating from the Colleges of Science, Agricultural and Life Sciences, Engineering, and Natural Resources.

Building Sustainable Communities

Interim Director: Stephen Drown 208/885-7448

A Master’s degree and Certificate options are offered for the M.S. degree in Bioregional Planning and Community Design with faculty participating from Art and Architecture, Education, Natural Resources, Science, Agricultural and Life Sciences, and Law. Concurrent J.D. program is also available. This program is currently applying for accreditation.

Environmental Science, Water Resources, and the Professional Science Masters

A bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, and Ph.D. degree are offered in Environmental Science; a certificate is offered in Environmental Water Science and in Environmental Contamination Assessment; a Master’s degree and Ph.D. degree are offered in Water Resources; a Professional Science Master's degree is offered in Natural Resources and Environmental Science; a concurrent J.D./M.S., J.D./Ph.D., and J.D./PSM is also offered. These degree programs include participation of faculty from Agricultural and Life Sciences, Art and Architecture, Business, Engineering, Law, Letters, Arts and Social Sciences, Natural Resources, and Science.

Neuroscience

A Master’s degree and a Ph.D. degree option are offered for the degree in Neuroscience with faculty participating from the Colleges of Engineering, Science, Letters, Arts and Social Sciences, and Education.
