Development
Fair Play Everyday was developed at the
Center for ETHICS*, University of Idaho, with support from KXLY-TV Spokane.
Narrated by Tom Grant, an award winning news reporter, Fair Play Everyday
has proven to be effective in improving sportsmanship awareness in coaches.
Punctuated by humor, amateur actors, professional news writing, and real
life scenarios, Fair Play Everyday supports the tenets of
sportsmanship as stated by the American Federation of High School Activities
Association and the Idaho High School Activities Association Sportsmanship
Manual.
Does it work?
Most certainly! In a university study of 450
high school coaches, the video was effective in improving sportsmanship
awareness. For more information about the Fair Play Study, contact
Sharon Kay Stoll, Ph.D. or
David Hansen, Ph.D.
How does it work?
The video inspires viewers to think twice about
sportsmanship issues. Rather than rely on long lists of rules and dry,
lifeless monotone information from experts, Fair Play Everyday only asks
three questions"
1. Is the behavior or
action honorable?
2. Is the behavior or
action responsible?
3. Does the behavior or
action foster or promote cooperation?
Once you see the video, you won't forget the
questions...and your interest will be piqued to study sportsmanship more!
The video is available for
purchase through the Center for ETHICS*,
$29.95. We believe it can make a difference in your school.
